What Sell2Wales is
Sell2Wales (sell2wales.gov.wales) is the national procurement website for Wales, run on behalf of the Welsh Government. Welsh public bodies use it to advertise contracts, invite quotes for lower-value work and publish award notices.
Larger opportunities are also published on Find a Tender, and some buyers cross-publish to Contracts Finder, but smaller Wales-only opportunities tend to appear here alone. See Find a Tender and Contracts Finder for how those two sit alongside it.
Who advertises on Sell2Wales
Notices come from:
- Welsh Government departments and sponsored bodies
- Welsh local authorities, plus fire and rescue and police bodies
- NHS Wales health boards and trusts, and the NHS Wales Shared Services Partnership
- Housing associations (registered social landlords)
- Universities, colleges and schools
- National parks, Natural Resources Wales and other arm’s-length bodies
Work ranges from construction and facilities management through social care, IT and consultancy. Many local authority and housing association notices are modest in value and suit regional SMEs.
Registration and alert profiles
Registration is free. You add company details and build one or more alert profiles, each a saved search: CPV codes for what you supply, the Welsh regions you serve, and the portal emails you when a matching notice is published.
A few practical points:
- CPV codes do the heavy lifting. Too narrow and you miss work; too broad and alerts become noise. Pick the codes you would actually bid under and review them every few months.
- Set regions honestly. Many Welsh buyers restrict to specific areas.
- Monitor the profile email. Clarifications and amendments land there too.
- Read the full notice, not just the alert. Deadlines, lots and documents live in the notice.
If you already use Public Contracts Scotland the setup will feel familiar, since the two portals have historically shared the same underlying system.
Quick Quotes
Quick Quotes are not open advertisements. For lower-value purchases a buyer selects a shortlist of registered suppliers from the Sell2Wales database and invites only those firms to quote. Uninvited suppliers often cannot see them. Two consequences:
- A complete supplier profile matters. Buyers search by CPV code, region and keywords when choosing who to invite; a sparse profile keeps you off the list.
- Respond promptly and properly. Buyers remember who replied well and invite them again.
| Route | Visible to | Typical use |
|---|---|---|
| Open contract notice | Everyone on the portal | Above-threshold and larger below-threshold contracts |
| Quick Quote | Invited suppliers only | Lower-value, short-turnaround purchases |
| Contract award notice | Everyone | Who won, and sometimes the value |
Award notices are underused. Who won what, and at what value, tells you which buyers are active in your space and whether your pricing is in range.
The Welsh procurement context
Wales adds its own policy layer to the UK framework. The Social Partnership and Public Procurement (Wales) Act 2023 places duties on certain Welsh public bodies around socially responsible procurement, including workforce and supply chain matters. The Well-being of Future Generations (Wales) Act 2015 shapes how buyers frame objectives, so tenders often ask about community benefits, local employment, fair work, environmental impact and the Welsh language.
You do not need to be a policy expert, but you do need specifics from your own business rather than generic statements. Apprenticeship numbers, local supplier spend, a carbon reduction plan or Welsh-language provision are the kind of evidence that gets asked for.
Tips for suppliers
- Register before you need to bid. Quick Quote invitations only reach firms already in the database.
- Write a company description using the terms a buyer would search for.
- Watch for prior information notices and buyer engagement events; they often signal a tender months ahead.
- Track deadlines separately. Alert emails do not remind you as the date approaches.
- Save every submitted response. Social value and fair work answers are highly reusable.
If you still check portals by hand each week, see what that costs in our manual portal searching comparison.
How TendersAutopilot includes Sell2Wales
TendersAutopilot scans Sell2Wales daily alongside Find a Tender, Contracts Finder, Public Contracts Scotland, eTendersNI and Crown Commercial Service and NHS frameworks. When a Welsh notice also appears on Find a Tender, it is merged into a single record so you see it once.
Each tender is scored for fit and win likelihood against your company profile: services, CPV codes, regions, contract size and certifications. Good matches surface at the top; irrelevant notices are filtered out rather than emailed to you.
For bids you pursue, the AI drafts responses from your own bid library of past bids, case studies and policies. It never invents claims, which matters for the social value questions Welsh buyers ask. Deadlines are tracked with Slack, Teams or email reminders, and a person on your team always reviews and submits the final bid.
Starter is from £199 a month with one profile and 10 AI drafts; Growth is from £349 a month with 10 profiles and unlimited drafts. The waitlist is free, with a 14-day trial at launch. See pricing or the FAQ for details.
